Challenge
Rehabilitating a 10-acre waterfront property dormant for 25 years, burdened by 180 asbestos-covered concrete grain silos and a 230-foot-tall grain elevator system.
Solution
GRP Brownfields, in partnership with BERG Demolition, remediated the property, demolished the structures, and repositioned it as a bulk material import facility. This transformation was completed in just 24 months, overcoming significant environmental and logistical challenges.
Results
The property now serves as a gypsum import facility supporting one of the largest drywall manufacturing plants in the United States. Its reintegration into the Port of Baltimore’s operations has unparalleled employment and economic benefits.
