Hawkin's Point Landfill

Challenge
Acquiring a highly contaminated clay-capped industrial landfill, designated as one of Maryland’s most polluted sites, and ensuring compliance with active waste permits.
Solution
GRP Brownfields took ownership of the site via a liability transfer in November 2019, renewed the waste permits under new ownership, and re-opened the landfill in 2020. Operated by Hawkins Management, it became the only privately owned asbestos landfill in Maryland.
Results
The reopened Hawkins Point Landfill provides a critical solution for managing asbestos waste in Maryland, aligning with stringent environmental regulations and filling a significant gap in state infrastructure.
